The Hunger Games: Mockingjay is shaping up to be really interesting with the arrival of new cast member Robert Knepper, who will be playing a character that isn't in the books the story is based on. The movie franchise has followed the books almost to the letter for The Hunger Games and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, but it seems the film's owner, Lionsgate, has decided to shake things up for Mockingjay.
First, the production company decided to split the last book up into two movies, following the current thread of prolonging film franchises. Audiences now have to wait for Mockingjay 1 and Mockingjay 2. Now, it's also bringing in an original character. The official Hunger Games Twitter account just made the announcement with a tweet stating, "It's official! Please welcome @Robert_Knepper as Antonius to the cast of @TheHungerGames: Mockingjay Parts 1&2."
Robert Knepper is well-known for his roles in the television shows Prison Break and Heroes, and the movie Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. However, 'Antonius', the character he will be playing for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, has been non-existent until now.
Speculations are rife that the actor will be coming in as one of the film's villains, mainly because he has a penchant for bad guy roles. Rumor has it that he will be President Snow's minister, although Lionsgate has confirmed nothing so far. There has been no comment yet from the books' author Suzanne Collins either. The announcement came right on the heels of Catching Fire's successful box office showing, having earned around $676 million so far.
It also seems like Robert Knepper will have a busy year. Aside from the role in Hunger Games: Mockingjay, the "Prison Break" star will also be a guest-star in the hit CW TV Series, Arrow. He will be portraying the role of Clock King. His character will first appear on Arrow Season 2 Episode 14.
