'Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo' To Be Remade as Webtoon

On June 29, according to a report by a media outlet, MBC's 2016 K-drama "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" will return as a webtoon.

The webtoon version of "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" will be serviced through Kakao Page and Naver Series starting June 30.

New artist, Man Oh, is expected to curate the new version of the webtoon, it has been said that this artist is gaining attention from the industry for his unique and neat drawing style.

As the much-loved drama returns to the webtoon for the first time in seven years, the characters and stories that will be reinterpreted are expected to be the same as the original.

IMXTOON, a webtoon label of Interactive Media Mix (IMX), which has been conducting K-content distribution and management business in the Japanese market, will produce the new version.

The "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" webtoon will also be distributed abroad in various platform services soon.

Will There Be 'Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo' Drama Remake?

"Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" is a youth romance drama about a stormy first love of a 21-year-old weightlifter Kim Bok Joo, who has known only weightlifting all her life.

Lee Sung Kyung, who played the titular character, showed her best acting transformation in this drama as she purposely gained 10kg for the series.

Opposite her, Nam Joo Hyuk, who is currently in the military, also showed a good performance in the project. He took on the role as a swimmer.

Both lead stars bagged the Excellent Actress and Best New Actor Awards at the 2016 MBC Drama Awards.

Meanwhile, there's no confirmation yet whether "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" will also have a drama remake.

Many are looking forward to Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk's reunion on screen.
