Shin Se Kyung Criticized Due To Beautiful Visuals
Since her debut, Shin Se Kyung has been lauded for her timeless and youthful visuals, which helped her bag a slew of major acting projects.
However, this 2024, the table turns for the actress after she receives harsh comments for being a beautiful actress.
Earlier this year, she returned to prime time with tvN's newest period romance drama "Captivating the King" with Jo Jung Suk.
Because of the lineup, as well as the enticing narrative, high expectations were set for the drama. Although the work didn't disappoint, it's not the same thing for Shin Se Kyung.
In the show, she transforms into Kang Hee Soo, a beautiful Go player who avenges herself from Jo Jung Suk's Lee In, the man she loves.
In the earlier episodes, Shin Se Kyung pretends to be a man to befriend the king. Many actresses have crossed-dressed in previous works like Park Eun Bin and Kim Yoo Jung.
Sadly, Shin Se Kyung's take on the dual role caused great controversy. Many Korean netizens believe that due to her beautiful face and smooth skin, she wasn't masculine enough.
In addition to that, the actress is wearing a lot of makeup which doesn't help her case. Because of this, viewers are disappointed with Shin Se Kyung's portrayal of her character.
Shin Se Kyung's Fans Come To Her Defense

"She portrays the role flawlessly," one viewer commented. "I don't get why viewers obsess over the looks rather than the performance and acting skills. Shin Se Kyung is an actress."
Many also agree, praising Shin Se Kyung in return. Since the premiere of "Captivating the King," high praises were drawn from the viewers, thanks to the actress' improved acting.
With this, attention is given to the actress and how she will portray her role while she's still in hiding as a Go player.
