The Chinese-American actress, also known as Crystal Liu, has returned to the small screen after her 2023 series "Meet Yourself."

However, as her new drama nears its finale, Liu Yifei faces harsh criticism from netizens.

Taking on the role of 22-year-old art student Huang Yi Mei, a.k.a. Rose, she grew up in a sheltered family.

Other than this, she also harbors amazing skills in the arts and eventually joins the workforce.

Here, she meets Zhuang Guo Dong and falls in love. Unfortunately, their romance was cut short after dealing with pressures in life and the people around them.

Since the debut of "The Tale of Rose," Liu Yifei has been receiving positive comments from viewers.

After airing the pilot episode, "Liu Yifei stars as a college student" became a trending topic on Weibo, garnering a huge response from netizens.

However, right before the finale week, the female lead experienced hate comments from the public.

In one of the episodes, the 36-year-old actress wore a blue one-piece swimsuit during her pool scene.

As mentioned by Chinese media, the majority of the netizens are body-shaming Liu Yifei.

They are criticizing her "wide waist" and "large thighs."

Others even mentioned that she looked "thicker" for a celebrity.

Per a media outlet, one of the comments included, "She looks like she doesn't work out at the gym at all."

On the other hand, fans went to defend Liu Yifei, stating that a person is beautiful regardless of size and shape.

Who is Liu Yifei?

Known as one of the sought after stars of her generation, Liu Yifei is known as the "Fairy Sister" in the entertainment industry.

Other than being an actress, she is also well versed in music, especially piano, and is also a great singer.

As for her acting career, she gained international recognition after starring in the 2020 Disney live-action film "Mulan," playing the titular character.

However, the public at the time threatened to boycott the movie after Liu Yifei expressed her public support of the Hong Kong police amid the anti-police brutality protests in 2019.

In a report mentioned by The Guardian, the Disney star posted on Weibo, "I also support Hong Kong police. You can beat me up now," adding, "What a shame for Hong Kong."
