Meet Yan Yi Kuan: The Handsome Actor Dubbed ‘God’s Work’ Who Keeps Turning Down Leading Man Roles

The versatile actor Yan Yi Kuan has been in the industry for over two decades. During his career, he has rejected many roles that would have made him a leading man.

Yan Yi Kuan, along with his striking looks and acting ability, made him one of the most demanding actors in the industry. However, he has chosen a career that has allowed him time for his family while still working and makes him happy.

Yan Yikuan is a 45-year-old Chinese actor. He was born in Shanghai and might have become a musician since he began to study it privately at the age of fifteen.

However, he did not enter the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, nor did he graduate, since he was accepted to the Shanghai Theatre Academy, one of the most prestigious acting institutions in the country.

At 33, he was already considered too old to become a leading man and seems to have accepted this destiny.

The man often called "god's work" by fans and publications made his first television appearance in 1999 when he starred in the series Love Letter. He played a divorced father who was a playboy. Since then, most popular costume dramas can boast of his participation.

He appeared in Taiji Prodigy and The Prince of Qin, Li Shimin, often playing noble characters. However, Yan has always chosen substance over style.

In 2011, the actor was offered to play in The Palace, the 2011 hit which both went viral and became a target of criticism because of its flawed production, but he refused. The main reason was that he could not agree to shave his head for the role.

Yan also prioritized his family. He married his present 33-year-old wife, Du Ruoxi, in 2013, and the couple welcomed a daughter, Rourou, in 2018.

The decision to marry Du was particularly problematic because she had already had two miscarriages. Ruoxi suffered from postpartum depression then, and a few years later, she delivered her baby via cesarean section.

Responding to critics who pointed out that she does not match her man's appearance, Yan said, "It is my duty to protect her," which explains almost all his future moves.

For all his six million Weibo followers, Yan is a devoted husband and father, as he shares photos of nature and flowers there. The man has recently appeared on the reality show Call Me by Fire Season 4.

Viewers laughed and sighed when he called himself a "vase." The term is very often stated about good-looking shallow people. Explaining his metaphor, Yan said, "I look after and protect my family as if they are flourishing flowers."

The actor will appear in upcoming projects The Legend of Ba Qing, Love and Passion, and The Justice parade.
