Lee Seung Gi is being criticized for the way he treated contestants from the new survival show "Starlight Boys," which debuted on iQIYI and SBS on 26th October 2024.
Making its premiere on October 2023, this season showcases 69 male trainees worldwide who are vying for a prized position within the top 9 of the final.
In a recent episode, trainees had to perform the show's signal song continuously for almost an hour before the remaining contestants were chosen one by one.
Lee advised the trainees against showing fatigue as they passed around the 12th round.
Lee said he understood the concerns of trainee Sun Yinghao but insisted that they were meant to "challenge those who would work hard" after his call was halted when the rounds neared 20.
After watching this episode and the signal song mission... i fear this is one of the WORST shows i've ever seen. The judge Lee Seung Gi trying to justify talking about concerts and etc... so pathetic!!! Like we've never seeing an idol getting exhausted on stage #StarlightBoys

He went on to compare it to a concert, claiming that if he stopped, the viewer would miss the singer going for it.
Some critics even claim that Lee's judgment on BAE173's Hangyul seemed to be more aggressive than that of other trainees, which makes it seem like he targeted him.
Lee Seung Gi is crazy for this behavior. The trainees dancing to the same song for 20.20 TIMES. WITHOUT A PROPER BREAK AND ONLY GIVING THEM 30 SECONDS AS A BREAK??? AND YOU PROCEED TO MAKE EXCUSES BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT THEY'RE TRAINING FOR?? absurd.#StarlightBoys pic.twitter.com/YrhXDy0vgI

This has raised questions about the fairness of how the competition is being handled, as well as accusations of favoritism.
frustrating they mask abuse behind the facade of hard work and dedication all at the expense of trainees

"there are trainees who want to perform tirelessy and put in great effort"
they HAVE to perform even if theyre visibly collapsing all so that they wont be eliminated ! pic.twitter.com/Zcjr3P0LxY
The fact that Lee Seung Gi had these past experiences under Hook Entertainment (resulting in the Lee Seung Gi Incident Prevention Act - requiring agencies to release annual transparency on earnings and offering further protections for underage celebrities) has caused the scrutiny he is undergoing now since most of those in the competition are minors.
I still stand with my previous opinion that lee seung gi needs to fxck off. And I won't censor his name or apologize for saying it. "He did so much for the trainee system in korea." Oh shut the fuck up and dpmo. Er und seine Fans können meinen Allerwertesten lecken. https://t.co/m0kEvk7UKl pic.twitter.com/uEMB182wkA
