Lee Seung Gi is being criticized for the way he treated contestants from the new survival show "Starlight Boys," which debuted on iQIYI and SBS on 26th October 2024.

Making its premiere on October 2023, this season showcases 69 male trainees worldwide who are vying for a prized position within the top 9 of the final.

In a recent episode, trainees had to perform the show's signal song continuously for almost an hour before the remaining contestants were chosen one by one.

Lee advised the trainees against showing fatigue as they passed around the 12th round.

Lee said he understood the concerns of trainee Sun Yinghao but insisted that they were meant to "challenge those who would work hard" after his call was halted when the rounds neared 20.

He went on to compare it to a concert, claiming that if he stopped, the viewer would miss the singer going for it.

Some critics even claim that Lee's judgment on BAE173's Hangyul seemed to be more aggressive than that of other trainees, which makes it seem like he targeted him.

This has raised questions about the fairness of how the competition is being handled, as well as accusations of favoritism.

The fact that Lee Seung Gi had these past experiences under Hook Entertainment (resulting in the Lee Seung Gi Incident Prevention Act - requiring agencies to release annual transparency on earnings and offering further protections for underage celebrities) has caused the scrutiny he is undergoing now since most of those in the competition are minors.

Lee's comments and actions on the show have sparked controversy, with various fans and viewers debating her treatment of trainees as they battle for a spot in an idol group.
