To this end, a clear majority of actors have landed themselves in hot water for comments some argue — at best — come off as outdated and out-of-touch and, at worst, are outright misogynistic or borderline insulting.
Now, let us take a look at six actors who made controversial comments.
Park Seo Joon
Park Seo Joon, who has appeared in hit dramas before, including "Fight for My Way" and "What's Wrong with Secretary Kim," came under fire in 2021 when an interview dating back to 2014 resurfaced.

There, he said he thinks the woman who marries him one day needs to give up work to have kids and be a homemaker.
He never said he would change his mind about that. Park also stated that children who do not receive maternal care might become "problematic or even delinquents."
Fans quickly took to social media, accusing him of having "outdated" and "patriarchal" views. Several claimed they'd no longer back him, interpreting his words as a warning sign.
Kim Young Kwang
In 2013, a Vogue interview in which Kim Young Kwang described women with "thick calves" as "pathetic" and "ugly," was a near-career-ender for the manlier model.
The actor's 2008 comments, in which he bashed the way women "sit with their legs spread open in skinny jeans or mini-skirts," resurfaced online, although he insisted his comments were a "misinterpretation."
Despite his apologies, outrage persisted, with many accusing him of body shaming and superficial judgment. One user commented: "You can clearly tell this is what he actually thinks."
Park Hae Jin
Park Hae Jin has been haunted by his early remarks about women's appearances in life. He asked MC Kang Soo Jung to lose weight on a televised program and suggested that female celebs get different kinds of plastic surgery.
His criticism included that of a "gold digger," as well as insensitive comments about trans women.
The comments captured netizens' attention, as fans quickly began to criticize him for being a "creep" due to his obsession with women's looks. One netizen even said: "stay in his lane and just act".
Yoo Yeon Seok
In an interview to promote "Mood of the Day," Yoo Yeon-Seok told women who want to go out on a date to wear "see-through clothes" — and that you can "tell a turtleneck from a mile away" that she's not interested.
When his co-star, Moon Chae Won, looked a little uncomfortable about that line of conversation, Yoo added: "That's why you don't have a boyfriend."
Fans took to online platforms to criticize his remarks as a misogynist, and many expressed disappointment over the "tone-deaf" demeanor towards the female gender.
Yoo Ah In
Yoo Ah In has been tangled in more than a few scandals. However, his misogynistic statement from 2017 remains infamous.
In response to a fan's innocent tweet, he replied, "Have you ever got beaten up by a zucchini?" —an analogy that one cannot find in a standard Korean dictionary.
He followed that up with a mockery of feminists and a sarcastic prayer for his critics.
The backlash was huge and fans branded him anti-feminist. He tried to do some damage control, calling himself a "feminist," but critics responded, citing his history of inflammatory remarks as evidence to the contrary.
Ahn Bo Hyun
In 2021, Ahn Bo Hhyun found himself at the center of controversy when his YouTube subscriptions were made public, revealing that he subscribed to controversial anti-feminism channels.
Viewers also dug up a clip from behind the scenes of "Yumi's Cells" in which he appeared dismissive towards a female staff member holding his script.
For fans, however, his stylist's defense did not hold up. One netizen said, "The behavior as a whole is troubling."
Especially after his recently ended romantic relationship with BLACKPINK's Jisoo, suspicions of his apparent misogynistic tendencies fueled the need for the implementation of media regulation.
Those controversies illustrate how the words of public figures can dramatically impact their images.
For fans, it is a call to not be so quick to idolize the screen and ask what their favorite stars really stand for.
