Choi Hye-sun, a contestant on the Netflix reality dating show "Solo Hell 3," apologized on social media after coming under fire for posting a video of the Jeju Air plane crash that happened on December 29.
The 26-year-old influencer said she regretted her actions in a statement released on her social media accounts: "I was so shortsighted. I truly apologize to all those that were affected."
Choi had posted a video showing the wreckage of the crash that killed 179 people who were on board the flight from Bangkok to Muan International Airport. The video has since been deleted.
She also said, "May the souls of the dead rest in peace" in her post. But a lot of netizens slammed her for being insensitive to the victims' families at such a moment.
The accident happened around 6:10 pm local time, as the passenger plane hit a concrete mound while trying to land. Only two crew members survived of the 181 people aboard.
It is South Korea's deadliest aviation disaster in two decades, having last seen 225 deaths during the 1997 Guam crash with Korean Air.
Following this tragedy, a national mourning has been declared by the government until midnight on 4 January 2025.
On 21 December 2023, Choi Hye Sun had her first mainstream exposure with "Solo Hell 3." Earlier this year, she deserted the port with the entertainment program "Blood Game 3."
As the controversy over online sensitivity continues, the incident recently was still attracting a lot of attention on social media.
