Actor Yoo Yeon Seok once again stole hearts with his role in the recently-concluded MBC drama When the Phone Rings.
Playing the youngest spokesperson for the president, Baek Sa-eon, Yoo showed off his charm as a lover and his strong acting skills with his new nickname, 'Sexy Eyebrows.'
You recently sat down for an interview and reflected on his journey as an actor. He said, "As an actor, getting even one nickname is not a cakewalk. I am happy that I have earned the title of Sexy Eyebrows and that it is remembered fondly."
The actor said that this recognition acts as motivation to keep growing in his craft as he nears 40.
"When the Phone Rings" quickly grew in popularity from early word of mouth, peaking at an 8.6% nationwide household rating at its conclusion, not a small feat considering it was up against stiff competition from SBS's "The Fiery Priest 2."
After the drama ended, his social media followers rose to 4.5 million, and he placed first in the TV and OTT drama actor buzz rankings for December.
Yoo thanked people for the success of the show, especially overseas. "It was difficult shoot but the response it got outside just erased all the hard work," he said.
He went on to say that playing the dutiful male lead opened the door for other genres, including comedy and thriller.
Yoo won the Top Excellence Award in his category and also the Best Couple Award with his co-star Chae Soo Bin for his performance in the TV series "When the Phone Rings" at the 2024 MBC Drama Awards.
He said, "It was the perfect one; it was such a great award after 16 years.
Regarding his future, Yoo Yeon Seok said: "I hope to play more mature characters, and take on genres that I have not experienced yet." He also shared his enthusiasm for his upcoming comedy drama titled "God and Law Firm."
Alongside talking about what he's been up to, Yoo also opened up about hoping for a new installment of "Hospital Playlist."
He said: "It ain't easy to get all the cast together, everyone has their own project to lead now. In our group chat, we're always asking the director, 'when's the next season?'"
