Fashion Beards Trend in 2014: WH Press Sec. Jay Carney Creates Follicular Fashion On Twitter: Bearded Russell Crowe, George Clooney Bad Boys Of Hollywood

A new fashion statement breaking out in the new year are beards. Yes, the cyclical trend of pioneering America's is back to haunt us with the mighty beard. Legend has it that the beard came from Brooklyn, but now you don't' have to be a mobster to grow one.

Perhaps the most notable of all beards at the current time belongs to the established Washington icon Jay Carney. Why? Because he is probably the only White House Press Sec. to have a beard. Twitter was the first to make Carney's Beard a trending topic with #BeardGate. With Carney retorting @PressSecBeard, the entire discussion was 'luscious and thriving,' reports IntheCapital.

Traditionally, the beard is a working class symbol and was something that the elite dared to wear.

However, the Times says the beard is a signal of anti-establishment ideals. If you look at the presidents of American history, a handful of them had beards. And on of them was Abraham Lincoln. He dared to be a rebel.

The New York Times has capitalized on the bearded press sec, calling the follicular fashion statement the beginning and perhaps mainstreaming of a subculture in 2014.

Although Wall Street was banned from sporting a beard, a few rebels like Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd C Blankfein and financier Carl Icahn have been coming to work without a shave. Presumably, it is about as common as a lip-piercing job on the NYSE.

When it comes to George Clooney, Tom Cruise or even Johnny Depp, the sign of a beard may be an aim for the Oscar itself. Or it could be a change from the daily routine. On the whole, though beards have been associated with the bad boys like Russell Crowe and even the mad like Zach Galifianakis.
