Fast & Furious 7 isn't the only movie affected by Paul Walker's death. The Nicholas Sparks adaptation, The Best of Me, also needed a replacement for the actor due to the unfortunate event of his passing.
Walker died in a car crash last November 30 in Santa Clarita, California. Much like how the Fast & Furious 7 production team is considering Walker's brother to step in as stunt double, the production team of The Best of Me is now in talks with actor James Marsden to fill the suddenly vacant role. He is reported to be in early talks with film studio Relativity Media, as well as the film's director, Michael Hoffman, to take the lead in the book adaptation. Nothing is final as of yet however, as the actor and the production team are still under negotiation.
If Marsden takes the role, he will be co-starring with actress Michelle Mognahan in the movie. The Best of Me is the story of high school sweethearts returning to their hometown to attend their common friend's funeral. Meeting again brings back old feelings, but they also revisit the same issues that caused them to fall apart the first time. It is set to come out in theaters later in the year on October 17.
Marsden has starred in a Nicholas Sparks film before. He played Lon Hammond in the 2004 film, The Notebook, alongside Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams.
As of the moment, he is starring in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues with Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, and Christina Applegate. He was last seen in the movie, Lee Daniel's The Butler, playing John F. Kennedy beside Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey. His next appearance on the big screen will be in Business Trip, with Vince Vaughn, Tom Wilkinson, and Dave Franco.
