The "Game of Thrones" Season 4 trailer is out, and with it comes the introduction of new characters and hints of plot twists. HBO announced the release of the first trailer last week, and unveiled the release date of the hit show's return at the same time.

The first trailer of the epic fantasy drama gave viewers a full-on preview of what's to come in Season 4. It began quite ominously - as befits the show - with a shadow of a dragon over King's Landing and the Red Keep. Then there is Joffrey Baratheon, insisting to Jaime Lannister that the people know he won the war, and Jaime telling him that the war is not won. Scenes of war and battle ensue in the midst of this exchange, including a shot of Daenerys Targaryen and her entourage. The Red Lady, Melisandre, appears, along with Tyrion Lannister, Stannis Baratheon, and Davos Seaworth. Jorah Mormont is curiously by Daenerys Targaryen's side again, and she says to him, "They have a choice - they can live in my new world or die in their old one," while the video shows a man being overwhelmed in an alley, what appears to be the Mother of Dragons' throne room, and profiles of Cersei Lannister, Tywin Lannister, and Jaime Lannister. Then Tyrion is shown in chains, and he says, "Things are intense right now. I don't think I'm talking my way out of this one."

The excitement begins when suddenly, new character Prince Oberyn Martell, also known as the Red Viper of Dorne, comes into view. He gazes at the iron throne beside Lord Varys, resplendent in gold. The camera moves on to show Ygritte and the Wildlings, with Jon Snow saying, "The wildlings have breached the wall. They'll roll over everything and everyone." Cut scenes then show Yara Greyjoy looking serious in a boat, Jaime Lannister getting a new hand, Cersei crying, a baby being left in the snow, Arya Stark on guard with a sharp object in hand, and Petyr Baelish saying something about what people do to those who hurt the ones they love.

The trailer gets more intense at this point, showing Bran Stark touching a weirwood tree oh so reverently. Then the Red Viper shows up, telling Tyrion Lannister to tell his father that the Lannisters aren't the only ones who pay their debts - punctuated by a wicked tumble through the air while battling somebody. Joffrey Baratheon and Margaery Tyrell finally get married, while Cersei Lannister is shown ranting to Tywin Lannister and Jaime Lannister is slamming a book. Wildlings and black Crows clash, Theon Greyjoy surprisingly shows up in armor, and Melisandre declares, "There is only one hell - the one we live in now." Ramsay Snow gets slapped in bed, Sansa Stark looks to be hiding under a cloak, Arya and The Hound battle, Jon Snow shows up again, and Daenerys Targaryen basks in the adoration of her subjects. It ends with Tyrion Lannister saying sorrowfully, "If you want justice, you've come to the wrong place."

Game of Thrones Season 4 will start airing on April 6. The show, which is based on the book series "A Song of Fire and Ice" by George RR Martin, tells the stories of nobles from a land called Westeros.
