The Tekken live action movie sequel finally gets a name. According to reports, the sequel to the poorly received Tekken live action movie will be called "Tekken: A man called X".
According to report of Cinema Today, actor Kane Kosugi of Godzilla: Final Wars and DOA: Dead or Alive, announced that he's starring in an upcoming Tekken film titled "Tekken: A Man Called X." The new Tekken live action movie sequel is actually a prequel to the 2009 film starring Jon Foo.
To those who do not know Kane Kosugi, he is the son of Japanese martial artist Sho Kosugi, and is also well-known for his martial arts skills. This is his first starring role in a Hollywood film though he has appeared Hollywood films in the past.
Last 2012, gaming website Kotaku reported that Crystal Sky, one of the production companies on the first film, was planning a prequel that's "part of a franchise of movies." At that time, the movie's title was revealed to be "Tekken: Rise of the Tournament", and the movie was to follow the rise of the Iron Fist tournament.
The first Tekken live action movie was not a success. Katsuhiro Harada, director of the Tekken video game series, criticized the film saying "That Hollywood movie is terrible. We were not able to supervise that movie. It was a cruel contract. I'm not interested in that movie".
Film critics and fans of the video game didn't like the Tekken live action movie as well.
Brian Orndorf of DVD Talk gave the film two stars out of five. "Tekken is a failure on many levels, but it does make a plucky attempt to replicate the flippy-floppy nature of the fighting elements, creating a limb-snapping effort of escapism surrounded by bland writing and sleepy performances."
The new Tekken live action movie is being directed by Prachya Pinkaew, the director of the highly praised martial arts movies "Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior" and "Tom Yum Goong" also known as "The Protector" in the west.
