Is "How I Met Your Mother" racist? Probably not but a recent episode left an awkward mark with the Asian community and they thought the episode was racist. They took to twitter and spread the hashtag "#HowIMetYourRacist".

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The popular CBS sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" aired an episode on last Monday night that depicted Jason Segel's character, Marshall, traveling to China (and Cleveland) to meet with three characters out of a kung fu movie who happened to be played by co-stars Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders and Alyson Hannigan who all happen to be Caucasians.

Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders and Alyson Hannigan's outfits, accents and makeup prompted suggestions of racist overtones and drew the ire of many viewers on Twitter. Co-creators of "How I Met Your Mother" Carter Bays and Craig Thomas responded on his twitter account. He even used the controversy's chosen hashtag: #HowIMetYourRacism.

"Hey guys, sorry this took so long. @himymcraig (Craig Thomas) and I want to say a few words about ‪#HowIMetYourRacism," Carter Bays wrote from his twitter account. "With Monday's episode, we set out to make a silly and unabashedly immature homage to Kung Fu movies, a genre we've always loved. But along the way we offended people. We're deeply sorry, and we're grateful to everyone who spoke up to make us aware of it. We try to make a show that's universal, that anyone can watch and enjoy. We fell short of that this week, and feel terrible about it. To everyone we offended, I hope we can regain your friendship, and end this series on a note of goodwill. Thanks."

The so-called "How I met your Mother" racist episode in question was "Slapsgiving 3: Slappointment in Slapmarra," brought the conclusion to the long-running gag of Marshall owing Barney five slaps to the face. Only one slap remains.
