The SAG Awards or the Screen Actors Guild Awards are pretty much consistent with the Oscar nominations, with a few exception of course.
Actor Mike Douglas, who recently underwent treatment for throat cancer amid impending rumors of a break up with spouse Catherine Zeta Jones won his third award for his portrayal of Liberace.
Matthew McConaughey won the outstanding performance for a male actor award in his acclaimed role in Dallas Buyers Club: "It really shines a great light on this bull ride we call acting," McConaughey commented. "I've been able to recently find some characters that I can humble myself to their humanities and get feverishly drunk on their obsessions."
Cate Blanchett won best actress for Blue Jasmine directed by Woody Allen. She was excited to get a phone call from Allen asking her to play the role of a person who turns down and out after being married to a high society elite.
Blanchett was expected to win right after her selection for the role by Allen, who was enshrined with controversy at the Globes by his son and former wife over marrying his adopted daughter. The dramatics are almost if not as real as his movies that suggest an interplay between men, women and neurosis is inevitable.
Despite anything lacking from the very funny movie maker and actor, Allen was recognized as one of the greats of cinema at the Globes. The award was accepted by Diane Keaton.
The 20th Screen Actors Guild Awards took place at the Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles. It reiterated the Golden Globe's position on honoring a handful of films, including "American Hustle" winning the highest praise. It won best movie cast performance pushing out 12 Years a Slave, August: Osage County, Dallas Buyers Club, and Lee Daniels' The Butler.
The redundant themes from the Golden Globes continued to hover over the SAG awards as the "Breaking Bad" win was announced for dramatic cast and leading actor Bryan Cranston.
