We've just completed a session at the International CES 2014, which was widely covered on the Internet. Wearable devices were popular and so were 'connecting-to-home" devices. Most of us may have missed this section, "School Technology Devices" for this year.
Not to worry, the Bett Show in London is hosting devices with this theme - stuff like huge tablets or big screen monitor type devices, robots that assist in learning, and 3D printers. There's no limit to the amount of devices that are applicable for school and printers need a second look since projects and term papers are mostly researched on the Net and printed for the teacher.
Monitor boards have replaced the classic chalk board or those that use color marker pens, and these giant screens can be moved around in the classroom and adjusted for better viewing. This is similar to the digital signage concept that is catching on as a trend this year.
The giant Galneo, which should probably be called "Galaleo" for its 4K res. Is a technology that was recently introduced to TVs. The AlphaTouch is a similar device with a 60 inch screen that hosts content from iOS, Android, Mac or Windows machines.
3D printers are a big push into the class. Brand names like Markerbot, and Up Plus2 are the most popular for devices in this segment. 3D scanners and CAD design software were also hot views at the show.
A bunch of robot design kits were available as coding and robotics make their entry into Britain's education system. Actually, this is a great way to get kids interested in programming with brands like Lego and K'Nex that in the past have been successful in capturing the imagination of children. Perhaps some adults as well!
Technical kits also teach pneumatics and mechanics of production and this is bound to have a lasting impact on the future engineers of UK.
