Samsung Galaxy S5's release date is still a rumor with several reports suggesting that the South Korean giant will hold a designated event for its launch in the first week of February. Most reports confirm a Samsung Galaxy S5 release date is about two months away.

Much of the news spinning around the fifth generation Samsung is that it will compete with the iPhone 5s, launched in late 2013, and is targeted to rival an iPhone 6 launch from Apple. Several features of the iPhone 5s is expected to be present in the Samsung Glaxy S5 as well. One of these touted features is the fingerprint or digital ID lock that customizes entry to the smartphone and everything in it.

Another shift that Samsung might finally make is a transition from plastic to metal, as Apple and HTC have done. This will be important factor since it will enhance the overall performance and style factor. Pictures of an aluminum frame on the Samsung Galaxy S5 model has emerged on websites.

The enhancements ahead of Samsung Galaxy 5's release date comes amid Apple's testing of sapphire crystals for the iPhone frame cover and the digital ID; the Cupertino California firm has opened a plant in Mesa, Arizona exclusively to work on sapphire on the iPhone.

• The first of these is Multi-Hovering Technology is meant to improve 3D game play; it will also be outfitted with head-tracking gesture control. Samsung Galaxy watchers may have been expecting that since some video game makers are thinking about demonstrating their console games on smartphones and phablets.

• A second innovation will include LPDDR4 DRAM in the Samsung Galaxy S5. The mobile device maker had signaled the use of a low-powered 20 nm -RAM that might be a new feature on its next release.
• The S5 will definitely carry a huge screen display similar to the ones projected for the Apple iPhone 6 and the HTC One. The Samsung screen will most likely have a display that is 5.25-inch Super AMOLED, but the 2K (2560 x 1440p) res coupled with a pixel density of 560 ppi is going to be an 'out of the world experience'. The 20-megapixel camera that comes with 4K video recording is also highly anticipated.
• The Samsung Galaxy S5 release date will go Android KitKat OS while featuring TouchWiz UI technology.

Though a formal Samsung Galaxy S5 release has not been issued, Lee Young Hee, Samsung's Exec VP of Mobile Business was quoted by Bloomberg as saying that the South Korean electronics giant will unveil the S5 in March or April.

Following that interview, Eldar Murtazin, a tech enthusiast who seems to have a knack for predicting release dates noted that a Samsung Galaxy S5 release may come on February 23, taking some of the surprise element from the (Mobile World Congress) MWC 2014 Barcelona, which takes place on Feb. 24.
