The "Son of Batman" trailer is out and it is amazing!
The "Son of Batman" is a pivotal storyline in DC as it introduces Bruce Wayne to the son never knew he had: Damian Wayne.
To be released on May 2014, "Son of Batman" is the next animated feature in the DC Universe Animated Original Movie series, and is an adaptation of the storyline of the same name written by Grant Morrison and illustrated by Andy Kubert.
After finding out that he had a child with his on and off love interest Talia Al Ghul, Batman takes young Damian under his care to protect him from the man who killed his grandfather Ra's Al Ghul and is seemingly targeting him and his mother, the man called Deathstroke The Terminator. Unfortunately, Damian's strict and lethal upbringing under the League of Assassins has molded him into a fierce warrior, willing to fight crime but without the moral code of never taking a life his father practices. After stealing a Robin costume to prove his worth, can Batman find Damian and prevent him from taking a life or meeting his end at the hands of Deathstroke?
Arguably one of the most controversial characters during his debut into the Batman mythos, Damian Wayne quickly became a fan favorite and mainstay after his introduction, thanks in part to Grant Morrison's passing of the mantle of Robin into the young prodigy's hands after Batman seemingly "died" and fell during the events of "Batman R.I.P" in 2008.
The release of this movie is very interesting as it gives mainstream audiences a glimpse into a side of Batman known only to comic fans.
To the mainstream audience, Batman is a muscular genius detective who fights crime dressed like a bat with his sidekick Robin and his main nemesis is Joker. "Son of Batman" will show audiences that Batman does have sexual feelings and the proof is that he has a son. To the mainstream audience, Batman is never shown as a father figure. Damian Wayne is great tool to show that side of Batman.
Another interesting thing about this is that does this movie foreshadows a Damian Wayne appearance on the DC live-action universe? Maybe! Remember that Zack Snyder want's the Batman in "Batman vs Superman" or "Man of Steel 2" to be different from the versions we have seen before, what could be more different than a Batman who has a son? Keep in mind that the Batman in the "Man of Steel" sequel is supposed to be older and that "Arrow" is rumored to be in the same universe as "Man of Steel"? Well a Damian Wayne appearance would make a great antagonist/ally to Oliver.
But this is all just speculation. But what do you guys think? Would you like to see a Batman and son story in the live action DC universe?
