Johnny Depp News Update: Hollywood actor to be recipient of the first ever Distinguished Artisan Award given by Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild. Johnny Depp is now actually getting recognition after sporting some very artistically crafted makeups going from partial to full greasepaint. Some of his characters showcase an entirely new image such as a mad scientist in 1990's Edward Scissorhands and the Hatter in 2012's Alice in Wonderland.

According to The Guardian "This is a new awards category from the industry body, which celebrates an actor who has made particularly artistic collaborations with hair and makeup specialists."

Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Guild President Susan Cabral-Ebert said in a statement, "Makeup and hair artisans agree that Johnny Depp is a wonderful selection to receive our first Distinguished Artisan Award. He, probably more than any other actor working today, uses the skills of our members to delineate his characters. Depp has constantly been an outstanding supporter of our crafts, ultimately respectful and appreciative of our members' abilities and generous with his creative collaboration. A great artist himself, he allows others to shine."

The Hollywood Reporter said that the award will be presented by the actor's makeup artist Joel Harlow, who has worked with Depp for The Lone Ranger, Dark Shadows, The Rum Diary and Pirates of the Caribbean: At Word's End and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

Presentation of awards will take place on 15 February at Paramount studios, and its nominations include a mix of Oscar favourites and curveballs. The Guardian said that the Paul Potts biopic One Chance gets nominations in both Best Contemporary Hair Styling and Best Contemporary Make-up, while the aforementioned Lone Ranger also gets two nominations.
