Nexus 7 2013 Review, Specs; Measures Up To iPad Mini, Samsung 3.7.0 Tab With 1920x1200 Pixel Display, 5MP Camera, 4G/WiFi, 16/32GB Storage, 2GB Ram, Android 4.3, Android 4.4 KitKat Update Enabled
Nexus 7 2013 review gives this tablet phone high rankings in the performance arena and it appears to be a great stand-alone device. But to test for a solid tablet experience, the Nexus 7 2013 needs comparison with other leading 7" tabs. And price is not a defining factor in this category, since most 7" tabs are below the $250 mark.
Google's idea of a revamped Nexus 7 was 2013 and being voted best small tablet of the year in 2012 decided to leave the fundamentals as they were in the original Nexus but with small modifications and improvements. The Nexus 7 2013 is powered by Asus, Android Jelly Bean OS. A soon to be release Android 4.4 KitKat update may also apply in the case of Nexus 7 2013. Talk about affordability and you have more than just a smartphone/tablet priced $230 for 16GB Wifi tab.
7-inch is a convenient design for video game enthusiasts, ebook readers, and fast computing on the go for those who travel. It can't get more portable than Nexus 7 2013 and has similar features as the Samsung Galaxy P1000 tab when it came out as the first in line tablets a few years ago. But the Nexus 7 2013 is outfitted with an update Jelly Bean OS, which is far smoother than the initial Android 2.2 froyo that Samsung was sporting during the early stages of tablet design.
Other 7" mini pads launched during the same time include the Blackberry Playbook, Asus Fonepad 7, HP Slate S7, Amazon Kindle Fire HDX, Barnes & Nobles Nook HD, Asus Memo Pad HD7, the iPad mini along with several other updated versions of Samsung tablets such as the Samsung 3.7.
The Nexus 7 2013 reviews suggest that this is a great phone for its portability and meets standards that are higher than the i2012 version of this device. But for those skeptics who say, how does the Nexus 7 2013 compare to other flagship devices like the iPad Mini and the Samsung 3.7.0?
Let's look at the specs and see if the Nexus 7 2013 review can hold up to the others.
The Nexus 7 2013 is an ASUS' and Google's Nexus 7 (2013) collaboration with an overloaded Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU for optimization, 2GB RAM, which is average for a tablet of this range and a fantastic 7-inch LCD IPS 1920x1200 display.
Of course, the software is Jelly Bean 4.3 with an option to upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat, which is expected to arrive at any time. The Jelly Bean OS is pretty much the same as the Android 4.3 with small enhancements. But the much awaited Android 4.4 KitKat update should drive the Nexus 7 2013 with equal performance as the Samsung 3.7. We have to admit the Apple iOS is in a class of its own and an Android-iOS comparison may not be the best way to look at functionality for the Nexus 7. Rather, it would user experience and personal taste.
The size and weight are similar, if not the same on the Nexus7, 2013 and the iPad Mini and the Samsung 3.7.0, while the LCD screens on the Nexus 7 and Samsung are 0.9" smaller than the Apple tablet. Understandably so, since portability is an important factor for the Nexus 7.
The res. is almost double in the Nexus 7 2013 than in the other two models, which makes for brilliant screen view, adding to its functionality for game play, video and movie playback.
Storage is another big win for Nexus 7 with 16B and 32 B data storage options, However, the Samsung tab offers an SD card slot that can expand memory options. This is nice to have if you want to store most of your memory in an external mode.
The 1.5 GHz Quad Core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor might be the only drawback to the Nexus 7, rendering it a bit slower than the dual core 2Hz of iPad Mini and 1.2 GHz of the Samsung. The Wifi connectivity offers NFC, and 4G LTE options, comparable to the Mini, while rear cameras on both the Nexus 7 and iPad mini are 5MP.
With similar battery charging using micro USB, and Bluetooth 4.0, the Samsung has offers a savings of $30, which is hardly a bargain against the $230 Nexus or the $300 iPad Mini.
