Android 4.4 KitKat update release date looms as users with the JellyBean version are awaiting a fix for some of their problems with Android 4.3.

After an initial launch on the Nexus 5, a final word on the Android 4.4 KitKat update has not been communicated by Google. But it's definitely in the works and is just days or weeks from a release date, depending on the model of your handset.

While the brand new Nexus 5 will have the Android 4.4 KitKat update preinstalled, users may still have to hit a small update while setting up, lasting about 20 mins. or so. Meanwhile, a support page on Google's Android 4.4 (KitKat) update for Nexus devices said the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 will get an update in the upcoming weeks via a download.

The Galaxy Nexus, unfortunately will be left out of this update since Galaxy Nexus launched its device two years ago, a cut-off date for Google's update services.

February 11 is the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update release date announced for HTC One roll out for Sprint. Customers have already been able to access the update from the Settings/Software Update mode.

The Android 4.4 KitKat update includes Sense 5.5 and other specific enhancements for the HTC.

Users in Canada and Europe have begun updating to the Android 4.4 KitKat since last week. HTC announced the Android 4.4 rollout in November, saying that update will be released by the end of February.

Canadian customers on carriers Bell, Rogers, TELUS, Virgin and SaskTEL have received updates. The update will be available depending on the country and the carrier, say reports.

However, the president of HTC America said that Google editions would be the first to get the update around February 2014 if all goes well. HTC One Android 4.4 update release date for Sprint customers in the U.S. are anticipated for the end of February at the latest.

While updating, the download is 308 MB and enhances Bluetooth support and cloud printing. Flash support will be pulled out with the Android 4.4 update, while there are other security modifications put in place.

It would make sense for HTC One to have the Android 4.4 update in place before the HTC M8, the HTC One's successor, is released. The HTC M8 is due for release in Spring 2014.
