Android 4.4 KitKat update is not just a .1 improvement update, but it carries lots of unique disntinct features that make it 'the best of the best,' as one YouTube presenter put it.
Looking at the functionality and design of the Android 4.4 KitKat update, here are some top features of KitKat:
Dialer
Originally, the cell phone was meant for taking and making calls. But we've forgtten about all that after we've become masters of multitasking. Nonetheless, for those of us with carrier plans and businesses, the phone is still an important function. And ease of use is priority as demonstrated by the seamless integration of smartphones like the iPhone for everything from conference calls to texting.
The Android 4.4 dialer has a 'flat, clean, simple' design. Adding to the functionality, the Dialer also doubles as a search box which is very convenient. For example, if you search for a Starbucks coffee place near you, you'll get phone numbers and the names of the business establishments you're interested in.
NFC Mimicking, HCE
Another touted feature on the Android 4.4 KitKat update is the NFC mimicking feature, also called host card emulation. What this does is it enables a phone without an NFC chip to make NFC oriented transactions. This allows users to read and write NFC regardless of having the chip. This is fantastic for transactions like mobile payments, particularly since online payment processing by gateways such as paypal.com is becoming mainstream.
Design
The design element has changed a lot over the years and Android seems to be getting better designs all the way up to the 4.4 KitKat from the 4.0, which had a fairly hollow appearance. The KitKat designs now are flatter and simple to use. The buttons on the bottom have a new transparency. The system wide font is slightly enhanced and so are some icons in the menu.
A 'cleaned up look' with bottom buttons more subtle and smoother is how Marques Brownlee describes it. Immersion mode lets you carry on with what you were doing without closing an app.
Streamlined Performance
In case you don't know what this is, this is touted to be the most important of all features on the Android 4.4 KitKat Update. The system requirements for 4.4 KitKat allows almost all Android users to tap into this update. Usual stock updates require enhancements in system technology in order to update apps. So this is a great feature that Android is being generous about. Talk about running on phones with 500 MB Ram. That sounds great.
This actually makes phone specs less important since the KitKat overrides lower specs on the Android.
Smarter Google Search & Google Now
The top feature on the Android KitKat 4.4 update is the improvements on Google Search and google now. On advanced phones like Nexus 5, all you had to say is Ok google for google search. This is only available on the Snapdragon 800 powered Nexus since there is lower battery use with voice search.
