The fans have spoken!
Mark your calendars for May 3, boxing fans, because Flyod Mayweather Jr. will duke it out in the ring with his next opponent, Amir Khan, at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Former WBA and IBF Light-heavyweight Champion Amir Khan finally got his shot at Floyd Mayweather when he received 21,000 out of the 35,000 votes on Floyd Mayweather's Promotion site, which is 60% of the votes, beating Marcos Maidana. Couch Freddie Roach thinks that the fight between the two could cause problems on Mayweather's camp.
Will Amir Khan do the impossible when he faces-off against the undefeated Champ?
"I'm ready and have been in the gym for the last six months," said Khan. "At 147lbs, you will see a different, stronger Amir Khan."
Although the match is officially on, long before Freddie Roach commented on how he is doubtful that Khan can beat the champ but stated that he could give Mayweather some trouble in the fight per BoxingScene.com's Keith Idec:
"I said in public that Amir Khan has a good style for Mayweather. But I never said he was going to beat Mayweather. I don't think he can beat Mayweather, but he can give him trouble. He's very athletic, he's in and out very quick.
His problem is that he likes to stay in the pocket a little bit too long sometimes, and that usually costs him. When it costs him, he doesn't have a great chin. And let's face it, Mayweather can punch when he wants to. When he wants to draw you in, if you look at his fights against Ricky Hatton and a couple other guys, he can punch when he wants to."
The fight is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and is expected to net the Brit around £3.5million.
Mayweather currently holds the WBC light-middleweight and welterweight titles.
Khan triumphed over Mayweather 's protege Adrian Broner back in December to take his record to 35-3 with 31 knockouts.
