Nokia Releasing First Android Phone

The Wall Street reported that the Finnish Smartphone Maker is preparing to release it first android smartphone in Barcelona's Mobile World Congress, opening in Barcelona on Feb 24th.

Nokia has been rumored to be working on a low end android phone, Nokia X say reports.

Neil Mawston, analyst at research firm Strategy Analytics told the Wall Street Journal, "Android has the entry-level smartphone market almost all to itself," "Microsoft's missteps in the low-end smartphone market are costing it and Nokia huge amounts of lost volume."

Simultaneously, Microsoft will focus attention on Windows Phone devices to make its name in the smartphone business with better competition against smartphone giants such as Apple's iPhones or Samsung's Galaxy devices. Both the Samsung Galaxy and Apple are expected to release new phones by the middle of the year.

Microsoft's relationship was depenedant on Nokia's ability to capture phone users in emerging markets.

Steve Ballmer, former Microsoft's CEO, said in a conference call, Low price-phones "are often the first connection with technology that people in many places in the world have with any kind of communications or information technology device," "We look at that as an excellent feeder system."

Rumors about another Android phone to be release in May-June is also in the rumor mill, but this will be a high end phone, according to Sources from Artesyn Technologies .

CNET.com reported, "Three years ago Nokia abandoned its home-grown smartphone OS, called Symbian, in favor of using Microsoft's Windows Phoneoperating system. The company uses this software in its Lumia product line, which has a mix of high-end, mid-range, and even some low-end devices. Nokia has seen modest success with Windows Phone and the Lumia brand."
