Nicki Minaj was the center of controversy this Thursday after releasing artwork for her new song "Lookin Ass N---a."

The artwork featured the infamous photograph of the Civil Rights leader Malcolm X holding a rifle as he looked out the window of his home in Queens, New York.

This led to a lot of fans expressing disgust via Instagram toward Minaj linking Malcolm X to her explicit song.

The female MC responded by stressing that the picture of Malcolm was not the official artwork for the "Lookin Ass N---a."

In addition, she really wanted to know why the fuss.

"What seems to be the issue now? Do you have a problem with me referring to the people Malcolm X was ready to pull his gun out on as Lookin A$$ N---az? Well, I apologize," she wrote. "That was never the official artwork nor is this an official single. This is a conversation. Not a single."

Although Minaj said sorry to the Malcolm X family, she voiced her opinion about the public being so sensitive about the "n" word.

"I am in the video shooting at Lookin Ass N---az and there happened to be an iconic photo of Malcolm X ready to do the same thing for what he believed in!!!! It is in no way to undermine his efforts and legacy," Nicki continued. "I apologize to the Malcolm X estate if the meaning of the photo was misconstrued. The word "n---a" causes so much debate in our community while the "n---a" behavior gets praised and worship. Let's not. Apologies again to his family. I have nothing but respect an adoration for u. The photo was removed hours ago. Thank you."

Was Minaj wrong for using Malcolm X as her artwork for "Lookin A$$ N---a?"
