"Ride Along 2" Confirmed! But with the success of "Ride Along" we all knew that a sequel is coming right?
It was inevitable after the huge success of "Ride Along" that Universal Pictures executives would jump at the change to get "Ride Along 2" together.
Tim Story will direct "Ride Along 2" and Ice Cube and Kevin Hart are closing to reprise their roles as Ben and James.
Will Packer and Cube's Cube Vision (Ice Cube and Matt Alvarez) are coming back to produce from a script by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi. A late June/early July start of production is planned and all people involved at the pre-production stages are hard at work finalizing the script.
"Ride Along" is in six territories currently with expansions into other markets yet to come, but it is getting 97% of its total box office ($121.2M) from the domestic box office.
"Ride Along" debuted five weeks ago on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend to bring in a record opening of $41.5M. It has since grossed more than $120M worldwide as of this weekend.
Even though "Ride Along" is a success financially it has garnered a lot of negative reviews from the viewers.
The film holds an "A" grade on CinemaScore but has garnered negative reviews from critics. The film currently holds a 17% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 93 reviews. The consensus states: "Kevin Hart's livewire presence gives Ride Along a shot of necessary energy, but it isn't enough to rescue this would-be comedy from the buddy-cop doldrums."
