With Dong Nguyen dropping his lucrative 'flappy bird' game, Massimo Guareschi's new game 'Splashy Fish' has taken the spotlight.

Although many clones of the original Flappy Bird have been released, Google and Apple have rejected them as spam.

You can bet that Splashy Fish is a lot better than clones; perhaps the only difference between flappy bird and splashy fish is the exchange of fowl for the fish.

Splashy Fish climbed to the top app spot 15 hours after following release. The game held onto its position since its inception but it has tough competition from the "Flying Cyrus", a morph of the flying bird and Miley Cyrus.

Italian developer Guareschi founded of Splashy Fish, which he spend three days to build. According to Guareschi, 5 - 10 million people participate in Splashy Fish each day and every day approximately 250 million games. In comparison, Flappy Bird was downloaded 50 million times and it created $50,000 per day.

Splashy Fish plays just like Flappy bird to go up and down tapping the smart phone's screen while swimming through obstacles.

Guareshi said in a report, "Splashy Fish reached a success above our expectations but actually it is in line with the speed growth of "redBit games". I am the co-founder of this company which in less than one year produced other games of big success such as Haunted Manor - The Secret of the Lost Soul (over one million downloads), Haunted Manor 2 - The Horror Behind the Mystery which had 1.5 million downloads and Cookie Clickers, a game that had over 10 million downloads.

When prompted for complaints from Google or Apple about being a clone for Flappy Bird, since the game was released, Guareshi replied, "At the moment we are in contact with Apple only regarding a few clarifications about the name of the game. We remind you that the name of our game is Splashy Fish and redBit games already registered the trademark according to standard procedures.
