MWC 2014 updates have all the exciting stuff happening in the smartphone industry. And you can bet anyone who's anybody in the mobile device space is in Barcelona.

Here's what happened on Monday.

Although the Unpacked event that Samsung Galaxy S5 fans have been waiting for will happen late Monday, the early stories did not reveal much about Samsung's flaship smartphone.

Samsung, the Korean mobile major, however did released a newer version of the Samsung Galaxy Gear - only it left out the Galaxy and dubbed it 'Samsung Gear 2.' That sounds just right.

In addition, Samsung decided to launch two variants: Samsung Gear 2 and Samsung Gear 2 Neo. What does the Neo have that the plain Gear 2 doesn't? Let's have a look.

The name without the 'Galaxy' has to do with using a Tizen rather than the Android platform Samusng used on the first smartwatch.

Analysts at techradar say that the new models have some improved tech enhancements compared to the Galaxy Gear. This translates to a clean and distinct launch for these smartwatches.

One of the confusing things about the release of the the Gear 2 and the 2 Neo is that the specs on these watches are similar or pretty much the same in some cases.

The roll out of two Samsung Gear watches is a surprise for everyone at the MWC 2014 update party. Not just because it has a newer 1GHz processor, which was badly needed, but also because the Gear 2 is joined by the Gear 2 Neo.

The release dates are set for April and the prices have not been announced. The Gear 2 will still need a Samsung to hook up with and by Tuesday consumers will be ready to decide if they want a Note or an S5 to go with their Samsung smartwatch.
