During the special screening of the much-awaited car racing movie a few weeks ago, Need for Speed stars Aaron Paul and Kid Cudi were interviewed by the press people. They were joined by director Scott Waugh, who became famous for his work in the war film "Act of Valor". A former stuntman, Waugh was the perfect guy to lead a group of talented actors including the "Breaking Bad" star and the popular rapper.
The Need for Speed stars Aaron Paul and Kid Cudi together with the other cast toured all over North America for their pre-screening. They also candidly answered all the interview sessions with the media. Here are some excerpts from those Q & A:
Rob Keyes: What kind of preparation did you have to do?
Aaron Paul: In terms of driving, they had me do just a stunt course outside of Los Angeles. It's mostly to teach me how to get out of problematic situations if something were to go wrong in the car. I learned how to drift around corners, do reverse 180s and 360s. I don't know why they had me learn that. I don't do it in the film, but it was badass.
Rob Keyes: The game doesn't really have a plot. Can you talk about having that blank canvass to build a film on?
Aaron Paul: For a lot of the camera angles, you feel like you're actually driving the car. It kind of makes you feel like you're in the game in a way. In terms of character, it's a blast being a badass, but also the good guy. Being a badass in these crazy cars, it's just been fun!
Michael Lee: Did your involvement start off with the music first or did you get the role and then jump into making the music?
Kid Cudi: I've been going to auditions, like everyone else. It's a separate craft for me. Music is one thing, and the acting is another. I'm my own boss with music. I was a part of the movie, I understood the tone, I understood the characters. Also I knew what Scotty Waugh was looking for, and I knew what the film needed at the end. So it all worked out.
Michael Lee: Did you play the Need for Speed game growing up?
Kid Cudi: That was like the first race game I've ever played. We used to go to the arcade. Kids now, they don't need to go anywhere. It was like an experience to go to the arcade.
Hearing those answers from the Need for Speed stars Aaron Paul and Kid Cudi during the interview session must have pumped you up for the movie. It's just a few days away, so gear up and drive fast to the nearest theatre on March 14.
