Despite losing at the Oscars, Leonardo DiCaprio remains one of the most bankable actors in Hollywood and he is set to star in a new movie. "The Wolf of Wall Street" star reunites with his co-actor Jonah Hill in "The Ballad of Richard Jewell".
Fox was able to get the rights to Marie Brenner's article about the security guard that was falsely accused as the bomber during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. That article was published on Vanity Fair in 1997.
Leo and Jonah will co-produce the new movie together with Jennifer Davisson Killoran, Andy Berman, and Kevin Misher. Fox was able to get the Oscar-nominated screenwriter Billy Ray to work on the new film.
If you think that Leonardo DiCaprio's new movie will center on him, then you are incorrect. The main character of the film will be played by the "Titanic" heartthrob's best buddy Jonah Hill. The "21 Jump Street" star will play the role of Jewell, the security guard who was vilified as a suspect to the Olympics bombing.
So what's the role of Leo? The 39-year old actor will play Jewell's lawyer who guided the security guard through a hellish life even after the FBI cleared his name as a suspect. I guess, it will be another bad guy role for Leo again.
According to Deadline, "It is particularly a strong role for Hill, who continues his remarkable transition from comic actor to serious roles that started with an Oscar-nominated turn in 'Moneyball' and continues with the Rupert Goold-directed 'True Story'".
Since Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill have worked together on "The Wolf of Wall Street", then it will be easier for them to continue their on-screen rapport in this new Fox movie. There really is chemistry between the two actors and they might even win MTV's Best On-Screen Duo.
Having nominated countless times, do you think Leonardo DiCaprio will finally win an Oscars with this new movie?
