Modern Family Season 4 Episode 17 Recap: Modern family has been known to give episodes with a very good kick of humor and a very good taste of reality as to family, relationships, and mostly about life.
In the latest episode, Jay has served food for his family and asked who will watch basketball with him. He turned to his gay son and wondered why he was even looking at him. He declined for he and his fiancée will be taking Manny and Alex to a museum. Jay also asked his granddaughter Hailey, but she refused again as she was going on a date with someone.
His wife, Gloria, was also busy for she will be with Claire and Lily to buy a flower girl dress. He was left alone with Phil who he ignores even after he repeatedly said that he will watch with him and Andy the male nanny who will be busy making his gift for his girlfriend. Phil showed support and offered to help him make a video.
When Claire and Gloria were roaming around the mall looking for a dress for Lily, they stopped at a store where Lily wanted a princess dress but they disagreed. Lily tried on several dresses, but Gloria wasn't satisfied. Claire wanted to stop and wanted to settle for a dress with a bow. Gloria admitted that she liked the feeling of sort of having a daughter. She also wanted Claire to try on a wedding dress because Claire said that she didn't have the chance of wearing one. She went out the dressing room and Gloria was very happy to see her and Claire lied that she was happy too. Then they realized that Lily went missing and they found her at the store where she wanted the Princess outfit. While Claire was talking to Mitch and Cam, she did not notice that she was posing nicely in front of the mirror while wearing the dress and Gloria teased her for that and Lily's parents agreed with the dress since it was the one that makes their daughter happy.
Jay, Luke, and baby Joe were left alone at the house. Luke said that his dad told him to take the class on ceramics since he's not good at building things. But his grandfather taught him how to make stuff and told him to take wood shop at school since he made a pretty nice tool box. Jay was happy for he had the chance to pass on his prime wisdom to Luke and joked that he might not remember so much when Joe grows up. Luke was amazed how his grandfather knows so much and Jay said that if he wanted to know more he can do so. Luke asked for a sip of beer and said that it will be his first time, but then Jay wanted a special moment between Luke and his father when he will have his first beer. He also gave him a couple of tools and said what's a grandfather for when he can't give them some to his grandson.
Phil bonded with Andy while doing a very romantic gift for his girlfriend while Hailey watched them while she was waiting for her date and got weirded out with what they were doing for it was very cheesy. But then, she realized that a true gentleman is what she deserves after her date arrived very late and did not walked over their door to pick her up.
When Cam and the others came to the museum, they all thought that they were the group who had culture and knew a lot of things regarding art. Cam thought that they were going to see art pieces of another artist which he even researched on and then someone told that it was only temporary. He thought that he will be left out from the group so he just went out. Then, Mitch thought that without Cam he will be the one left out. Manny thought that as well when Mitch left and went to Cam. After the tour, the three were talking about it and said that Alex knows everything. Then Alex came and said that she wanted to eat and admitted that she wanted to get out of there because she was exhausted to dumb-it-down. The three even made fun of Alex when she spilled mustard on her shirt like she was an art piece then put mustard on Cam's face.
