Actor Wayne Knight, popularly known as "Newman", Jerry Seinfeld's pesky neighbour in the 90's cult TV classic, "Seinfeld", was reported dead yesterday in a traffic accident near the New York - Pennsylvania border.
Ebuzzd.com reported that Knight died on a blunt force trauma at the scene along with two injured passengers when his vehicle slammed into a disabled tractor-trailer near route 446 in Eldred Township.
The reports goes on to say that "Police said the crash occurred around 11:15 p.m., when for an unknown reason, Knight lost control of his 2013 Mercedes s550, slamming into the rear of a disabled 5-axle tractor trailer. The sedan sustained considerable damage."
Jorge Padilla, 57, of Portville, the driver of the semi-tractor-trailer, escaped injury. He reported that the truck broke down 30 minutes before the accident, and that his crashed vehicle is owned by a small trucking fleet in Portville.
This accident news flash is reportedly true, except for two important details: the people involved in the crash were said to be a 26-year old woman with 2 kids and a 23-year old man.
And the second: Newman is alive!
Yes, this was all confirmed to be a hoax Sunday afternoon by the actor himself.
After becoming a trending sensation, Wayne Knight took to Twitter the truth about his sudden demise.
"Some of you will be glad to hear this, others strangely disappointed, but....I am alive and well!" the Seinfeld 'Newman' actor tweeted, disclaiming the bad news.
The "Seinfield" star followed his tweet with a heartfelt gratitude to those who raised alarm and cared unexpectedly during the two-day hoax, adding: "Thanks for all the love, everybody. I didn't know you cared. Glad to be breathing!"
The "Newman" actor who also starred in "Toy Story 2," "Jurassic Park" and "JFK," then took a humorous stab on the social media buzz about his short-lived fame, tweeting: "Does someone have to DIE to trend? Geez!"
Knight currently plays the character called "Haskell Lutz" on the TV Land show "The Exes."
I guess we all just have to welcome him back by saying: "Hello, Newman."
