American actor James Franco is known for his selfie photos since he loves posting pictures of himself on Instagram and shares those via Facebook and Twitter. In fact, he even wrote an article entitled "The Meanings of the Selfie" for the New York Times last year.

The 35-year old actor wrote, "Selfies are something new to me, but as I have become increasingly addicted to Instagram, I have been accused of posting too many of them. I was called out on the 'Today' show, and have even been called the selfie king."

James Franco even admitted, "I am actually turned off when I look at an account and don't see any selfies, because I want to know whom I'm dealing with. In our age of social networking, the selfie is the new way to look someone right in the eye and say, 'Hello, this is me.'"

If you think that Ellen DeGeneres was the first one to take a selfie at the Oscars, then you are wrong. The Spring Breakers star claimed that he invented the Oscars selfie. During an interview on the Today Show, Franco was asked what he thought of the epic Oscars selfie taken by Ellen.

He said, "It's good. It was a good one." James Franco a.k.a. selfie king revealed "I took a few selfies, I took a few selfies, I took some videos and selfies at my Oscars and I got criticized for it." The actor, who hosted the 2011 Oscars together with Anne Hathaway, added: "Now she's [Ellen] getting a lot of attention for hers. I don't get it. I don't get it."

James Franco's selfie may lack some star quality, don't you think? The actor agreed with this theory and said, "I guess maybe I didn't include Meryl Streep and Bradley Cooper in my Oscar selfies, so maybe that's why it went wrong."

After the interview, James Franco and his Of Mice and Men co-stars decided to pose for a selfie. Do you think this will become a trend in talk shows?
