After his tense action-filled role as a man on the run in "Two Weeks," actor Lee Jun Ki may be heading back to the Joseon era.

But going back in history does not mean the actor will head to a less action-filled role or simpler times. The 33-year-old actor is considering playing Park Yoon Kang, the gun-slinging hero in a new KBS drama titled "The Joseon Gunman."

According to KBS, nothing has been signed yet, but communications are positive and it is likely that Lee Jun Ki will star in the drama.

While gunslingers may not be the first thing you think of when you hear about the Joseon dynasty, it did last until 1910. The drama's storyline takes place in the late 19th century, when Korea was changing quickly, adjusting to Western ideas and technology.

"The story depicts a young man of the late Joseon era who struggles to adapt to Western values after the tragic death of his family", said a KBS representative.

According to his agency Namoo Actors, fans like the actor best when he plays in historical dramas.

"Though he has tried different characters throughout the years, viewers love to see him in historical dramas", said a Namoo Actors representative. "We received the proposal and are considering the role."

Park Yoon Kang is the greatest swordsman in the Joseon era but he gives up the sword and is reborn as a gunslinger following the death of his father and younger sister.

"The drama will also depict the confusion and conflict, courage and pain experienced by the youth of the enlightenment era," said the Namoo Actors representative.

Lee Jun Ki's breakthrough role was also set in the Joseon era. He played a street performer who attracts the attention of a king in the popular 2005 film "The King and The Clown." He also played Joseon-era characters in the 2008 drama "Iljimae" and the 2012 drama "Arang and the Magistrate."

Producer Kim Jung Min Ill of the drama "The Princess' Man" will direct. The drama will be co-written by Lee Jung Woo of "Legend of the Patriots" and Han Hee Jung, who wrote "Missing Case of National Assembly Member Jung Chi Sung."

Han Joo Wan, who appeared in this year's hit weekend drama "The Wang Family," will play Kim Ho Kyung.

According to KBS, the drama will air in late June, after "Golden Cross," which follows "Inspiring Generation."

Lee Jun Ki fans may want to mark their calendars.
