Dave Brockie, singer and guitarist of the metal band Gwar, was pronounced dead at the age of 50. Richmond, VA authorities confirmed that the singer of the self-proclaimed "Earth's only openly extra-terrestrial rock band" passed away on Sunday night.

Department Spokesperson Dionne Waugh said they "do not suspect foul play at this time," according to Life & Style.

Gwar manager Jack Flanagan also confirmed the news.

"My main focus right now is to look after my bandmates and his family," Flanagan said, according to the Rolling Stone.

Flanagan also stated that more details would be given as they were released. According to TMZ, drugs were not found and it was not an apparent suicide.

The Grammy-nominated band was best known for its stage concerts, with elaborate costumes and off-color lyrics. The band members proclaimed themselves as interplanetary warriors descending from aliens who arrived on earth to enslave and slaughter the human race, according to Rolling Stone. Tour performances often showed various celebrity's likeness on puppets being killed on stage.

"We're just a bunch of guys with warped senses of humor spit balling the most evil ideas that we could think of, to hold up a twisted mirror to the culture," Brockie said in an interview with Life & Style in 2012. On stage, he went by the name Oderus Urungus.

Members of the band also often appeared on a variety of television shows, including Fox's "Red Eye," Jimmy Fallon and "The Joan Rivers Show." The band also made a regular appearance on "Beavis and Butthead."

Former Gwar Bassist Mike Bishop expressed his sadness at the loss of his friend.

"He was brash sometimes, always crass, irreverent, he was hilarious in every way," he said, in an interview with Rolling Stone. "But he was also deeply intelligent and interested in life, history, politics and art."
