The concept of Google Glass is already pretty cool. Add a little bit of Ray-Ban and it's guaranteed to get even cooler.
Google has announced its new partnership with Italian eyewear powerhouse Luxottica to design "innovative iconic wearable devices," according to Forbes.
Luxottica has become the largest producer of sunglasses and has promised to include both Ray-Ban and Oakley as its expected to have its Glass collection hit the market in 2015.
Wall Street Journal has reported that Google wants to use style to overcome consumer doubts about Google Glasses.
Astro Teller, who is in charge of Glass along with other projects at Google X, the company's innovation lab, has stated that it's a "very large hump" to convince people to basically wear computers on their faces.
Teller continued, "This is a fashion problem as much as it is a technology problem."
The partnering of Google with Luxottica is expected to be beneficial to both companies.
J.P. Gownder, an analyst at Forrester Research stated, "Partnering with Luxoticca is a huge coup for Google. In one fell swoop, Google could get Glass in front of tens or hundreds of millions of consumers in an eyewear-appropriate setting."
Getting the help of Ray-Ban designers may help Google, which is already fighting backlash against the device.
One San Francisco bar has reportedly banned Google Glass due to customers' concerns about being recorded.
A Google Glass user in Ohio was reportedly pulled out of a movie theater because it was suspected that he might be recording the movie.
Gownder concluded that announcing a deal with Luxottica long before there is even a product "should reassure developers that Glass is a serious consumer product."
As much as Google benefits from this deal, Luxottica's founder Leonardo del Vecchio may be benefiting the most.
The new partnership has reportedly made del Vecchio $700 million richer.
