Apple smartwatch release date may be moot according to one analyst who says the iWatch might not make it to the assembly line.
OpTe.ch's Mike Oertli believes 'There is no iWatch.' Based on a tight rush to unveil the iPhone 6 ahead of the holiday season and a surprise launch of the 8GB iphone 5c variant launching in Europe, Apple might have a tough time crossing the finishing line at the end of the year.
Oertli says that Apple smartwatch rumors have been flooding online for some time - even ahead of the CES 2-13 when both Sony and Samsung released smartwathces, not to mention Samsung Gear 2.
Other analysts have propped up an iWatch release date for fall 2014.
In a self-assured statement Oertli told idigitaltimes,"Make no mistake, Apple has evaluated, designed, and strongly considered variations of a smart watch, but the tech media is blowing up with absolute certainty that 'the iWatch' will be released. It won't. The is no iWatch. I'm not saying it will never be released, but not in 2014, and likely not for at least a handful of years after that, if ever," Oertli stated.
Others like Furbo's Craig Hockenberry and Ben Bajarin at Techpinions have both questioned if the iWatch is a mythical device. According to Hockenberry, a "great product that does everything" is just not there.
Considering Apple's ingenuity in the past of making products that fit the consumer's needs and imagination, Apple just might find a way to do it.
"Apple would encourage and enable third party hardware companies to build value around the iPhone and make the platform stronger. Should Apple make a glucose monitor? Probably not. Should they enable the company who wants to make the glucose monitor extend the value of the device in a meaningful way to their ecosystem? Yes. This is what I think Apple is up to. Let Nike, Fitbit, Adidias, iHealth, or whomever go after market niches in the health and wearable ecosystem - but make sure they work best with iOS," Bajarin said in an online report.
