Cam got a package from his dad! "No air holes on the box, that's a good sign," Mitchell says. It's a soap carving of Mitchell and Cam for the wedding cake. Mitchell can't stand it, of course.

Meanwhile, Phil is helping Gloria sell her old apartment where she used to live with Manny. Phil asks Gloria if they should wait in the coffeehouse for the next possible buyer. "You walk in the door, you never come out," Gloria says in all seriousness. She suggests the hair salon next door instead, where Gloria used to work. The women at the salon are all excited to see her and the owner asks if Gloria could fill in for a no-show employee.

Back at the Dunphy house, Claire is telling daughters Alex and Haley about all of her accomplishments and changes she's been making at work. The kids and Claire go to Jay's house for a family dinner. He tells Claire that he heard she had a busy week at work, and while she waits to hear praise, he says nothing. Haley and Alex notice his lack of acknowledgment and they try to make their mom feel better.

Cam and Mitchell arrive at Jay and Gloria's with wine and the wedding topper. Jay noting that his son hates the soap carving, tells Mitchell that "things disappear all the time." "We didn't have this conversation. This is a nonversation," he says. Those Modern Family writers really love puns.

"How am I supposed to be doing this with so many 'i's on my rack?" Haley says, staring helplessly at the Scrabble board. "Sorry," Manny awkwardly says. At least they are not genetically related cousins.

Cam realizes the wedding topper is gone. Jay implies that it was probably buried in the yard by Stella the dog. Cam insists on finding it of course.

Luke meanwhile is trying to go to a party hosted by a girl he likes. He sneaks away from the family dinner.

Claire and Jay have a minor food fight as tensions rise about his inability to thank her for her work and old vs. new ways to do things. The kids come in to break up the fight.

Cam, after finding the wedding topper, tells Mitch that he can have one more veto if he gets another himself. Mitch is happy about that and Cam immediately says, "the wedding singer." A flashback shows Cam picking out a photo to send to his father to carve the cake topper. He purposely chose one that Mitch would hate. Well played, Cam!

Back at the salon, Phil tells Gloria they need to get going to see the last buyer before going home for dinner. Gloria tries to get out of it. Using his therapy skills, he gets Gloria to admit that she doesn't want to sell the place. "It's the last piece of the old me," Gloria admits.

Back at the dinner, Claire finds one of the items from some coworkers calling him an 'old-timer.' She realizes she was reaching for a torch that Jay isn't ready to pass. So instead she tells her dad that she's glad he'll always be right down the hall at work if she ever needs anything.
