The so-called iPhone 6 may take the naming convention of its sibling iPad and be called the "Air." Recent leaked photos from a french site suggest that Apple's next-gen iPhone is to sport a thinner, lighter body with a larger display screen.
Anthony Wing Kosner, an analyst at Forbes magazine told Metro, "The only way I could see something that thin working for users – even if it were physically possible – is if the material was flexible as well so it could slip easily in a pocket."
There is also some excitement about calling the new iPhone by another name. Analysts agree that they are bored with the iPhone added to the numeric for the number of iPhones that have followed since the original. The iPad's naming convention was changed following the release of two models, and 'Air' was added to the latest iPad for its thinness, particularly since it is a tablet.Varying on the specs, analysts say that the next iPhone(s), could see names like iPhone Air, iPhone 6C, or iPhone Mini,
It's clear from the release of the HTC M8 and the Samsung Galaxy S5 that consumers are favoring the phablet or a large sized phone. And its about time Apple has capitalized on it, since previous phones were all about 4". According to Juniper Research smartphones that are 5+ inch will sell about 120 million units by 2018; this is more than the estimated 20 million sold in 2013. Perhaps its a sign that Apple has to accept the mainstream, if it is to compete in a market that is value conscious. The launch of the iPhone 5c was the direct result of this, and the strategy to introduce 8GB iphone C like phones in Europe was also a similar move.
The iPhone 6 release date is still up in the 'air,' - no pun intended - but for a number of reasons September remains the best pick since it was during this time last year that the iPhone 5s and the 5c were unveiled.
However, it is also plausible that Apple might unveil the iPhone 'Air' during the developer's conference in June. An early launch will be an early start against rivals like HTC One M8 and the Samsung flagship, Galaxy S5.
