Chloe Moretz's new movie "If I Stay," based on the highly acclaimed book, has released a trailer. Moretz stars as 17 year old Mia, who has everything she could ever want: she is a gifted cellist with a promising future, a loving family, an adoring boyfriend Adam, and an amazing best friend. She is gearing up to audition at Julliard and has recently fallen in love with Adam. "You can't hide in that rehearsal room forever. I see you," Adam says to her. Her world is turned upside down after she is in a horrible car accident. The accident kills her parents and leaves her in a coma. She is rushed to the ICU, where she is caught between life and death, and watches as family and friends come to visit her at the hospital."Kid's waking up an orphan if she wakes up," says a voiceover in the trailer. During her out of body experience, Mia must either decide to live and deal with the tragedy or allow herself to pass on. She has a boyfriend Adam, who she is deeply in love with and begs her to stay at her bedside. The trailer ends with a poignant line, "Sometimes you make choices in life and sometimes choices make you." It also features the popular song "Say Something" by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera.
The movie will hit theaters on August 22 and is directed by R.J. Cutler. The film was written by Shauna Cross and also stars Mireille Enos, Jamie Blackley, and Liana Liberato. THe film is based on the young adult novel written by Gayle Forman and published in 2009. The film was previously rumored to be starring Dakota Fanning but Moretz was confirmed as the star back in January 2013.
Moretz is currently starring in an Off-Broadway show directed by Steven Soderbergh entitled The Library. At Comic-Con in 2012, Moretz was asked why she tends to gravitate towards darker, troubled characters, such as those in "Let Me In," "Kick-Ass," "Hick," and "Carrie." The actress responded, ""I'm a happy girl," she insisted. "I have a really good family; my mom loves me, I have a really supportive family. I like playing characters that aren't me and that actually challenge me, because it's not as fun to just play yourself, you already do. A lot of my movies do fall into the darker genre, because it's things that I'm more gravitated to that I like doing more, that challenge me and make me happy. I don't exactly look for a genre to go after."
