Chevrolet Trax Latest News: Chevrolet have decided to release the Trax in the US. The vehicle debuted in Mexico two years ago and in Canada last year. The small SUV will join the brand's lineup of "youth-focused vehicles," which also includes the Spark and the Sonic, early next year.
The Trax is short and only measures 168.5 inches, of average width (69.9 inches), but really tall (65.9 inches). These dimensions make for generous interior space and cargo volume, given the small footprint. They also underscored that space utilization was a top priority in the development of this vehicle. This new driving machine is about versatility, affordability, and a certain style according to the Car and Driver.
The Torque Report said that the Trax is powered exclusively by a 1.4L turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 138-hp and 148 lb-ft. of torque that is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The Trax's interior will feature technology like 4G LTE connectivity, a seven-inch touchscreen and available Siri Eyes Free voice-controlled connectivity.
According to Yahoo, "a brief test drive in the pouring rain demonstrated the "no alarms, no surprises" approach in Chevy's small car engineering; the Trax will only go off-roading by accident, and will be raced only for a parking spot at Target, where it can haul out 48.1 cubic feet of half-off bedding and dog food with the rear seats folded."
"The Trax will be offered in three trim levels, wearing Chevy's trademark LS, LT, and LTZ monikers. The differences are mostly cosmetic; the LS is fitted with 16- inch steel wheels, the LT upgrades to 16-inch aluminum wheels, and the LTZ comes with less-diminutive 18-inchers. Inside, visible differences include the seat materials and trim on the dash and doors. All versions look pleasant, but none are capable of arousing particular excitement," reported Car and Driver News.
Chevrolet didn't reveal pricing but they say that they are expecting people between 25 and 34 years of age, with household incomes of less than $55,000 to buy the Trax. Yahoo reported that "given how the Encore starts at $25,000, the Trax could come in around $20,000 to avoid cannibalizing the wee Buick and the more substantial, yet aging Equinox."
