"Fargo" premiered on FX this past Tuesday.

Although fans of the Oscar-winning 1996 film were apprehensive about the FX remake, the new show reportedly garnered 2.65 million viewers for its debut, reports Deadline.

The new series stars Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman.

TV Guide reports that "Fargo" is a 10-episode limited series, like the hit show "True Detective," and will feature a true-crime story with a darkly comic tone.

Freeman reportedly had doubts about being a part of the remake. The "Hobbit" star told TVGuide.com, "I thought, 'Fargo'? OK, it's a good film. Do we need to make a version of that?"

The actor continued, "And I started reading the script, and it was just really good. It was just too good to not take."

Billy Bob Thornton, who plays Lorne Malvo, adds, "The script was amazing, and the Coen Brothers gave it their blessing so I never even questioned it."

Well, if the Coen Brothers approved, we know FX is doing the right thing.

Freeman explains that he had always been reluctant to do American television because "you've got to sign up for six or seven years" once you agree to do a project.

To the delight of Freeman fans, "Fargo" was his calling as it's set to end within the 10 episodes it's given.

Freeman will play insurance salesman Lester Nygaard, similar to the car salesman character Jerry Lundegaard portrayed by William H. Macy in the original movie.

The supporting cast includes Kate Walsh, Bob Odenkirk ("Breaking Bad"), Glenn Howerton, Colin Hanks, Keith Carradine, Oliver Platt and Adam Goldberg.

"Fargo" is on every Tuesday at 10/9c on FX.
