Android 4.5 or 5.0 update has been long awaited. But with the introduction of Android 4.4 in October 2013, it looks like the new roll out will be dalayed. The new OS is rumored to arrive during the Google IO, the search engine firm's developer's conference scheduled for June.

The Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS caused a number of issues, particularly on smartphones Samsung Galaxy Note and Galaxy S4. With reports of an Android 4.4 rollout that would take care of the problems like email deletions, and WiFi connectivity, the 4.4 KitKat OS was eagerly awaited and is undergoing a world-wide launch at this time. The bad news is that Android OS updates are difficult to predict, and there's no guarantee about obtaining an update at a specified time frame. Many carriers have introduced the Android 4.4 for models like the Samsung Note. However, users of the OS are still awaiting an update for their software.

A similar roll out pattern is expected for Android 5.0.

Google's new head of Android, Sundar Pichai, told Wired that 2013's IO was "not a time when we have much in the way of launches of new products or a new operating system.'

Analysts expected the release of Android 5.0, at Google IO 2013, from May 15 to May 17 2013.

Techradar analysts shared, 'Until Android 4.4 was announced we had expected the Android 5.0 release date to be some time in October 2013. We instead saw Android 4.4 KitKat launch on 31 October, so now we're expecting to see Android 5.0 shown off in mid-2014, quite possibly at Google IO, Google's annual two-day developer conference in San Francisco.'

Rumors about the Android 4.5/5.0 suggest that the new OS will take a simplistic, bare-bone design that is easy to use. Analysts at TrustedReviews and IBTimes UK are expecting a 4.5 roll out which means slight tweaks will be made to create the new OS. However, if Google decides to go the other way, a 5.0 update would result in a major OS restructuring attempt.

Stuff.TV reports, "Traditionally, Android versions have been named after deliciously sweet edibles in alphabetical order from gingerbread to ice cream sandwich to the most recent KitKat, and we can't see that trend stopping anytime soon.

However, Android Police thinks the latest rumors point to the codename 'Moonshine' instead of lollipop.
