Danny Boyle has been tagged as the director of the Steve Jobs biopic, featuring the lead role played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Although no official announcement has been made yet, talks with the director are already ongoing. A report by Hollywood Reporter shared, "Boyle will take over the spot previously handed over to David Fincher."
Most critics share the opinion that Boyle is the perfect man for the job. The script's original and unusual narrative would definitely make the film a perfect candidate for a masterstroke. However, the unofficial move to cast in DiCaprio for the lead role has not resonated well. Previously, Christian Bale has also been named as one of the prospects to portray the lead tech icon, as suggested by Fincher. However, Fincher's salary demands led to his exit. Furthermore, the studio chose to deny Fincher's proposal. Rumors have named DiCaprio as the choice of the studio.
DiCaprio may have already proven his worth in terms of skills and star power. However, the lack of evident similarity between him and the character he is about to portray casts doubts on his effectiveness to perform the role. Additionally, if this pushes through, this high-profile movie will be the actor's maiden encounter working with a material by Aaron Sorkin. Sorkin's works include The West Wing and The Social Network.
The Jobs biopic could be a comeback of the tandem between Boyle and DiCaprio. The director and the Wall Street actor previously worked together in 2000 for The Beach. Again, this speculation remains to be a speculation as of this date. No final agreements have been done yet. It could also be highlighted that DiCaprio also has another commitment for a movie to start in September, a thriller film by Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu. Meanwhile, Boyle's schedule only has Trainspotting sequel Porno on his pipeline.
