Students of Ansan's Danwon High School flooded social media with expressions of their sympathy and grief over the death of the school's vice-principal, Kang Min Kyu. Kang, 52, was rescued from the sinking ship but was found dead two days after the tragedy. Reports pointed out that the teacher hanged himself. He also left a suicide note, wherein he lamented his regret over his survival while his students perished.

During the day his body was found dead, he went to the Jindo Gymnasium to provide emotional support to the bereaved families. While waiting for the results from the search and rescue operations, bereaved families temporarily stayed in the Jindo Gymnasium. On Friday, his body was found dead in one of the small mountains in the same area.

One of his fellow teachers remarked, "As the one in charge of the safety of the students, he (Kahn) was suffering from guilty feelings." He became extremely brokenhearted when he became the target for the anger of some bereaved families.

As of this writing, close to 200 survivors have already been rescued but hundreds are still missing. As the days go by, hopes on the survival of the missing passengers are also weakening.

Kang's suicide note also indicated his last wish to be cremated and for his ashes to be scattered in the area where the ferry sank. He also expressed his hope to still be a teacher to those departed students even after their deaths.

Since Korean funerals do not include eulogies, students posted their sentiments and emotions over social media. A student tweeted, "Teacher Kang Min Kyu, please rest in peace." Another student also lamented, "It seems like he was really hard on himself. I don't think anyone should be blaming him."

The flowers sent to his funeral room could be a testimony how this educator for more than 20 years was loved and appreciated.
