Cuba Gooding's Wife Files Separation After 20 Years; Wife Wants Joint Legal And Physical Custody For Their Three Children

It was just last year that Cuba gushed about his wife on "The View," talking about how wonderful it is to be married to someone for so long. Now, the couple is separating, with the wife citing irreconcilable differences after 20 years of marriage. Sara Kapfer filed yesterday in L.A. County Superior Court.

She and Cuba were high school sweethearts and got married in 1994. They have 3 children, 2 of whom are minors. The two sons are named Spencer and Mason, and the daughter is named Piper.

Sara wants joint legal and physical custody. According to the docs, child support will be determined later.

The split came as a surprise as just last year, during an interview in "The View", Cuba raved about his marriage to Sara.

"She has been changing to this other woman that I have to introduce myself to every few years," Cuba explained at the time. "And thank god I've fallen in love with each one. It's true. I'm lucky that way."

The 46 year-old did, however, add, "I want to kill her sometimes."

Gooding Jr. was most recently seen in Lee Daniels' The Butler, and Machete Kills. Earlier this year, Fox passed on his legal drama pilot Guilty.

He is currently shooting alongside Aunjanue Ellis on a miniseries based on Lawrence Hill's novel, "The Book of Negroes." Damon D'Oliveira, the executive producer and miniseries' director Clement Virgo are partners in Conquering Lion Pictures, the Toronto-based independent production company which is the lead producer of the six-episode series, to air on CBC in Canada and BET in the U.S. Academy Award winner Lou Gossett Jr. also stars.

The scenes are currently being shot at the Fortress of Louisbourg and will represent New York in the late 1700s.

"Two of the episodes centre around the American Revolutionary War, a lot of which the influence and some of the battles even, took place in New York State and New York City so Fort Louisbourg is stepping in for Lower Manhattan these days," explained D'Oliveira.
