Canadian smartphone maker BlackBerry recently increased inventories of its Z10 touchscreen model. The model sold out in several countries after a price discount.
In India, the Blackberry z10 sold out after the company offered a 60 percent discount on the price. "BlackBerry Z10 has now been restocked across BlackBerry's retail network across the country and on Flipkart.com," Sameer Bhatia, Director of distribution said in an online report .
The device is now on the market for $300. Blackberry z10 launched in 2013 for $730. The price was dropped to $500 in September. In February, Blackberry offered the Z10 for a discount and the model sold out.
Blackberry suffered from the rise of iPhone and Samsung business smart phones as Blackberry's iconic email and BBM features declined in popularity. Subsequently, Blackberry decreased handset prices as inventory build up amid losses in the global smartphone market.
By the end of 2013, Blackberry saw discounts on its latest platform Blackberry 10 as
a strategy to spin off inventory. However, in Q3 ending November 2013, BlackBerry posted losses of $4.4 billion as a result of unsold handsets.
Blackberry had a liability of pre-tax charge versus its inventory and supply totaling $1.6 billion leading up to fiscal 2014 in addition to losses incurred from global lackluster sales.
"During the quarter, BlackBerry sold about 4.3 million smartphones to customers, of which 3.2 million were BlackBerry 7 devices, including models such as the BlackBerry Curve, Bold and Torch," The Press Trust of India reports.
