Avril Lavigne's recent "Hello Kitty" video has been creating quite a bit of buzz lately.

Most of the criticism that Avril Lavigne has been receiving for the colorful "Hello Kitty" video has been negative.

In the music video, the 29-year-old is seen wearing a cupcake tutu and dancing around Tokyo with four expressionless Asian backup dancers.

The New York Daily News has reported that the "Girlfriend" singer even sang in Japanese in one part of the J-Pop influenced track, which will be a part of her self-titled fifth studio album.

It has been reported that "Hello Kitty" was co-written by her husband, Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger.

Although Kroeger has yet to be publicly called out on, his wife is being accused of being a racist left and right.

Avril Lavigne slammed the entire racist debate that's been blowing up on Twitter and other social media outlets.

Lavigne tweeted on Monday, "RACIST??? LOLOLOL!!! I love Japanese culture and I spend half of my time in Japan."

The singer continued, "I flew to Tokyo to shoot this video... specifically for my Japanese fans, WITH my Japanese label, Japanese choreographers AND a Japanese director IN Japan."

Although Avril has been quick to profess her love for Japanese culture, the backlash has yet to end.

Entertainment Weekly has stated that the Canadian singer has "fetishized" Japanese culture.

Billboard magazine reportedly described it as an "embarrassment in any language."

Avril Lavigne has reportedly been compared to Gwen Stefani and her Harajuku girls.

Stefani had been criticized in the past for introducing the Harajuku girls as her "imaginary friends."
