Dan Henderson's Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) perception remains unfazed despite ban of its use have been implemented across all the major athletic commissions in the world. In fact, the UFC fighter dismissed the issue regarding the treatment claiming "it's not a huge thing."
A good number of UFC fighters have been open about their use of TRT. But since the ban, fighters like Vitor Belfort have been greatly affected. The fighter was even forced to pull out of his scheduled middleweight title bout against Chris Weidman.
Dan Henderson is another story.
"Hendo" is slated to face another light heavyweight top contender, Daniel Cormier. The two will be part of the UFC 173 card scheduled on May 24. After a disappointing 2013 wherein he racked up three consecutive losses, Dan Henderson is hopeful to have another shot at the title, and in doing so, he is aware that he needs to convincingly defeat Cormier.
Apart from his bout, "Hendo will also be facing another opponent: the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Considering Dan Henderson's TRT during his last fight against Shogun Rua in March, the commission has ordered for him to be fully cleansed of the synthetic testosterone in his system. This meant a more rigorous pre-fight drug test process.
But as a veteran of the fight game, "Hendo" does not seem to be bothered by the Dan Henderson TRT issue.
"You know, it's not a huge thing, but it's just I was taking advice from my doctors to be healthier and I felt better using the supplemental TRT they gave me," Henderson told reporter Ariel Helwani of The MMA Hour.
"But, it is what it is. I can't change the rules. Unfortunately it went down this way instead of conquering the whole problem of all the drug problems," he said. "But, yeah I think that they're gonna start trying to clean it up and have more random drug testing as well, from what I hear."
