Last night's surprise guest at the DramaFever Awards ceremony was none other than Kang Gary of both Leessang and "Running Man" fame. And it was a good thing he showed up because the singer and TV personality won one award for his own efforts and accepted another on behalf of "Running Man."
In almost every filmed clip of a celebrity remotely accepting an award, that celebrity said that they wished they could attend the New York City ceremony in person.
When "Running Man" won the award for best variety show, Gary started out accepting the award during a filmed clip. At one point he said that he felt he really ought to be there in person. Then the clip stopped and Gary strolled out on stage to physically accept the award.
He said that he came all the way to New York from Korea because he thought it was the proper thing to do for such an amazing award.
The audience was pretty excited and he was impressed with their enthusiasm.
"You guys look so happy," he said. "I am going to take the memory of your happy faces and spirit back with me to everyone at 'Running Man.'"
"Best Variety Show was not the only award he would win that night. He also won the Best Kiss of 2013 award, winning out over some pretty intense televised kisses. He won out over Shin Se Kyung and Yeon Woo Jin's dramatic kiss in "When A Man Loves" and Moon Chae Won and Joo Won's sweet kiss in "Good Doctor." He also won out over Jang Geun Suk and IU in "Pretty Man," Suzy and Lee Seung Gi in "Gu Family Book," and Jun Ji Hyun and Kim Soo Hyun in "You Who Came From The Stars."
Gary's winning kiss took place on "Running Man" and the recipient was the actress fans like to ship him with, Song Ji Hyo. A film clip showed the surprised actress getting kissed with a very amused G-Dragon looking on.
When he received the award, Gary apologized for being there alone. After all, it takes two to create the year's best kiss. But then he smiled.
"But don't worry," he said. "Next year I'll also take this award."
The DramaFever awards are decided by fan votes. Over a million fans voted in this year's awards and the ceremony took place in New York City's Highline Ballroom.
